Sabon Birni Must Not Be Abandoned: A Call for Urgent National Action


 

The worsening security situation in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State demands immediate national attention. Reports of terrorist attacks have left many communities living in fear, forcing innocent men, women, children, and the elderly to flee their homes in search of safety.


No Nigerian should have to abandon their home because of violence. Every citizen deserves the right to live in peace, raise a family, attend school, farm, and earn a livelihood without fear of attack.


As displacement increases, affected families face severe humanitarian challenges, including shortages of food, clean water, shelter, healthcare, and education. Beyond the immediate suffering, prolonged insecurity threatens local economies, disrupts farming activities, and deepens poverty across the region.

We call on the Federal Government, the Sokoto State Government, security agencies, humanitarian organizations, community leaders, and all relevant stakeholders to work together to restore peace and protect lives. Intelligence gathering, community engagement, improved security operations, and adequate support for displaced persons should remain top priorities.


We also urge Nigerians across the country not to remain indifferent. The pain of the people of Sabon Birni is a national concern. Supporting humanitarian efforts, promoting peace, and standing in solidarity with affected communities are responsibilities we all share.


The people of Sabon Birni deserve hope—not fear. They deserve security—not displacement. They deserve the opportunity to return to their homes and rebuild their lives in peace.
